We wanted to get up close and personally with our newest member Sara, from Daily Polish.…… let’s read shall we? Elke

1. I know that you write for your beauty blog, but what is your real day job? I am a Records Manager at a law firm in London
2. What made you start your blog in the first place? How did you get started? I was in the middle of a long period of unemployment while I waited on my next visa from the UK government (you aren’t allowed to work without a visa or while you wait for a visa!) and I read nail blogs constantly…but I was home all the time and none of the blogs updated often enough for my liking. I felt there was a lack of nail blogs that updated consistently every day no matter what so I decided to start one of my own…I didn’t have anything better to do with my time!
3. What makes your blog different than all the other beauty blogs out there? What’s your niche? Well not right this second because I’m dealing with stupid internet stuff but ordinarily I think one of the things that I love most about my blog is that even after a year and a half I still update every day and I try to write every single post on the day and not schedule in advance. It’s hard work (really really hard work to juggle life and work and swatching and writing posts on the spot) but I like to think that to me…it just makes my blog more “me”. I feel like I am giving a more authentic representation of myself by writing things as I go even though it’s more difficult. I don’t know what sets me apart from other bloggers, I don’t always have the best photos or the products first…I just consider myself to be a woman who absolutely loves nail polish and wants to share that passion with other people. I’m not a professional nail person or a professional photographer. I just get overexcited and like to share that with whoever is willing to read!!! No one in my real life wants to sit and talk about why red with red shimmer is different than red with red microglitter!
4. What is your current favorite beauty product that you found because of your blog? Hmmm. I’d say possibly Lumos topcoat. It’s my current ‘Holy Grail’ topcoat right now, it dries so fast and shiny!
5. What is your favorite post on your blog that you’re the most proud of? I’d say it’s a toss-up from any time I get invited to an event (which happens SO RARELY, I get so excited to go to these, I am like a kid in a candy store…so giddy and jumping up and down inside) and I get home and try to compose my thoughts and get my post out quickly because I am grateful for the opportunity to have attended something. Otherwise I don’t think it’s a post in particular but more watching the evolution of my blog. I’m so proud to see my photos evolve and my post quality evolve (or I think they have), it’s a trial and error process and I’m still far from perfect or far from where I want to be…but I think I’m on a good path to continually getting better.
6. What is the coolest thing that has happened to you because of your blog? Getting invited to OPI and Illamsqua launches! Never in my LIFE did I think that would happen! Honestly I am not that enamoured with getting free products – don’t get me wrong, it is nice (when it happens, it isn’t that often but it IS exciting to feel like you are being “recognised” or “rewarded” for having a good blog) but sometimes it is easier to write your blog or opinion when something isn’t given to you for free if you aren’t happy with something (not that being given something for free would ever keep me from giving an honest review but some companies think that by giving you something for free you are beholden to them for a positive review…which is a load of rubbish!).
7. What is your favorite part about being a beauty blogger? Meeting other bloggers! I have met (in real life and online) the funniest, most clever and talented women. I would love to have some sort of international gathering, I hate that some of my favourite people are far away. I am thankful for the local ones that I get to see on a semi-regular basis!!
8. What is your current favorite beauty trend of the moment? I have to say that I’m not that big on crackle nail polish…I do love where Shellac is going at the moment and how other nail polish companies are embracing the need for some sort of long lasting nail polish product, I think it’s definitely the way forward for me (especially for pedicures!!). I’m also a massive fan of Minx or Minx-like products (I went to a trade show and I couldn’t BELIEVE how many Minx-like products there were, it’s definitely taking the nail world by a storm) and the possibilities are endless (it is worth noting that the same is also true for gel and Shellac polishes, you can layer them and come up with such interesting combinations). I also love matte polishes, there are some companies that do only matte polishes and they are fantastic…and some companies that dip their toes into the matte market because it’s the trend. I love it all, as long as it’s interesting to look at I want to own it!
9. When you’re not blogging, what do you like to do for fun? Well I’m a big US tv addict, I love Criminal Minds and other crime shows (and House!) and I love reading, I’m in book clubs and spending time with friends…although the blog takes up a lot of my time!
10. What future plans do you have for your beauty blog? What do you see doing with it in the future? (i.e. new theme design, new features, adding…) Eventually I’ll probably change the design maybe…but I do love the way it is now, I worked with a webdesigner to create the whole thing, it’s exactly as I imagined it. Maybe if I ever get up the courage to incorporate other aspects of beauty into it….but maybe not. I must admit on nail blogs that feature cosmetic posts I tend to just skip past the cosmetics (unless I’m actually interested in the product) and find the nail posts (gah, I probably sound like a blog writer’s nightmare!). I try to only write about things I actually use on a regular basis. If I am writing about something non-polish related you can rest assured that it is a vital part of my daily life, whether it’s a face mask or my new favourite shampoo. I tend to love hanging out in my nail polish comfort zone, so if I’ve left it…I must REALLY care for the product!!! I guess I just like being a nail blogger and don’t see anything wrong with being “just” that. There’s still so many more brands to explore and colours to swatch…I could do it every day for the rest of my life and never be done!
