The backstage hairstyling team for Betsey Johnson was lead by Thomas Dunkin for Sebastian. This particular show was held offsite at the Altman Building on Sunday, February 14th.

While covering backstage at Andy & Debb, I had the opportunity to discuss the hair look with Phyto's lead hairstylist, David Cruz. He stated that the goal was to achieve a beautiful, perfect texture, that's shiny and healthy, but with very little volume- center parted and tucked a little behind the ears.


The hair was prepped with Phytovolume Actif Volumizing Spray with a mix of Phyto 7 Daily Hydrating Cream and then blown out. The ends of the hair were then flat ironed, section by section. To add shine and control flyaways, the hair was finished with Phyto Professional Glossing Cream from roots to ends.



Easy enough, right? Definitely a look you could achieve using these products, along with the right tools! The complete runway look is available here.

For Fall Fashion Week 2010, designer Susan Cianciolo collaborated with Christopher Drummond of Christopher Drummond Beauty. The result of these two eco-friendly forces colliding was a fun, dramatic, colorful and thought provoking palette (that showed t...]]>
According to Christopher,
“When Susan and I were talking about the look, it was very organic, literally. Her clothes are organic, and my makeup is organic-based. We took her idea of the vibrant colors that are displayed under the sea and translated them onto the face. The result was lines and stripes of blended bright colors that melted together.”


Also, Christopher and Susan decided to step out-of-the-box by giving each of the twelve models a different look that reflected their personality.

Here are the steps Christopher used to create the look:



· Concealer was applied to the face with Christopher Drummond Beauty (CDB) Velduo Velvet Foundation over it. Christopher covered the eyebrows with concealer as a base for the eye color

· Next, Christopher dipped his angled eye shadow brush into a color that would work for the model. He drew a thick, angled line from above the brow to the lashes, in one swipe. He repeated this until he had the desired color saturation. He used various colors that he thought would be interesting and used three to five different color strips on each eye

· On the bottom lashline, Christopher used one color from the outer corner to the middle, and another from the inner corner of the eye to the middle, and then blended the two together so there were two liner colors on the bottom

· Instead of using mascara, Christopher allowed the eyeshadow color to fall on the lashes to create a beautiful, dramatic, multicolored eyelash.

· Finally, Christopher painted the lips with concealer to finish the look.


And here are Christopher’s tips for translating the look from the runway to the street:

· Pick three subtle colors that you like, and place the CDB natural cocealer as a primer all over the eyelid

· Separate the eyelid in three even sections with a liner brush and a small amount of shadow (kind of like a stencil)

· Next, take a medium amount of the shadow, and press it into one section. Blend it in well.

· Do the same with the other two sections

I love Valente Frazier- like SERIOUSLY! I've had the opportunity to see him at a celebrity makeup symposium a few years ago and found him to be such a huge inspiration. And isn't that what life is about- using your gifts to inspire others? He shared with us his journey - the steps and the many risks he'd taken to achieve his dream, and I can't tell you all how much I love meeting people who are living their dreams! I became well versed in all Wella products while apprenticing at Vidal Sassoon and so I was curious to see what the artistic team would create for DKNY's runway show. I was told that the fall collection "encapsulates New York art and soul, reflecting the convergence of creative worlds and individual style that is the spirit of New York City". The hair look was a "refined side-swept ponytail projecting a sexy equestrian vibe with a subtly strong, yet not too masculine look".



Wella Professionals lead colorist Eva Scrivo directed a team of colorists to handpaint extensions using Blondor, Koleston Perfect and ColorTouch to match the natural color palette of the models' hair- ranging from medium brown to a spectrum of blonde shades. Extensions were then woven in to soften the look by placing the paler pieces in the front where the sun would naturally lighten the hair.



Eugene Souleiman (top photo), Global Creative Director for Wella Professionals, led the styling team by creating the low side ponytail using System Professionals Volumagic to give the side part direction. System Professional Hypercurl was used on the length of the ponytail for separation and added texture. Additional looks from the runway show are available here.

The Makeup Blogger

:1. What made you start your blog?

When I first started my career as a makeup artist I was attending school to be a writer. The blog combines my two biggest passions, writing and anything beauty related. I also adore connecting with people, and sharing all my great new tips or product finds (both professionally and personally).

2. WHY do you blog?

It has become such a passion project for me. Not only does it make trying out new products more rewarding, but it gives me an outlet to share my love of the beauty industry. I am always on the lookout for great new tips, products, or boutique brands. Now I have a way to share my finds!

3. What is your all time fav product?

I keep coming back to Youngblood mineral foundations and La Mer creme. I have been using both since the beginning.

4. What is the coolest thing that’s happened to you because of your blog?

Connecting with my readers. It is one of the most fulfilling feelings to know that people are relating to you, your voice and enjoying your writing. I have talked with people across the world, and am still amazed that I have readers from all over.
